Carson-Newman University’s reach will soon extend further into Knoxville with the purchase of a building on Middlebrook Pike.
The school purchased the former Capital Bank building at 9261 Middlebrook Pike in Cedar Bluff to transform it into the Carson-Newman Knoxville Education Center.
The center will serve as additional classroom space for dual enrollment and adult and graduate studies, a meeting space for online students and a location to house alumni events.
“This location near the center of Knoxville has excellent access and high visibility, making it a great marketing investment for our university,” said interim President Paul Percy. “By utilizing that increased accessibility and visibility, we hope to bring increased enrollment. Moreover, we’ll be better equipped to serve our Knoxville-based alumni.”
Carson-Newman will convert three of the building’s four units for university use. The unit that housed the original bank location is already furnished to fit some of the university’s needs, including two offices, a conference room and computer workstations.
Two other will be renovated to accommodate three classrooms for students working toward bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and nursing programs.
Classes will begin in the new location in 2019.
