Pillow Academy gave up two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as host Magnolia Heights claimed a 3-1 win Monday in a North AAAA Division II contest in Senatobia.

The Mustangs and Chiefs played a doubleheader Tuesday at Pillow to close out their three-game series.

Pillow scored its lone run in the top of the first, but Magnolia Heights tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second. The Chiefs scored their winning runs off of Lawes McCool, who went two innings, allowing three hits and fanning one.

Eli Simmons started on the mound, giving up one run on two hits, walking two and striking out two. Lake Giachelli went one inning, walking one, and Nolan Marshall went one frame, fanning one.

Shane Houston Stephens had a hit and the lone RBI, and McCool had a single and scored the run. Gavin Lessley had a single.

Amanda Elzy: The Panthers took care of business Monday as they swept Ruleville Central to finish 3-7 in Region 3-3A play.

With three straight wins in region play, Elzy (6-9 overall) can qualify for the playoffs if J.Z. George lost Tuesday at Charleston and falls to Humphreys County Wednesday, if the game is played. The Panthers and Jaguars would tie for fourth place, but Elzy gets the spot based on run differential in its head-to-head meetings with J.Z. George.

In the first game Monday, the Panthers got a bases-loaded walk from Ladarius Davenport for the winning run in an 8-7 decision. Elzy trailed 7-5 going into the bottom of the fifth and plated three runs to earn the win. Elzy scored four runs in the first and one in the fourth. Ruleville scored one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Deontae Neal (1-0) worked the final inning to get the win. He allowed four runs on two hits, striking out one. Norman Polk started as he went the first four frames, allowing three runs on one hit, walking eight and striking out three.

Dephabian Fant had two singles and a triple, and Smitdarius Wright and Khyrus Jones finished with a single and RBI double each. Polk had an RBI single, and Davenport also had a base hit.

In the second game, the Panthers prevailed 3-1 as they scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Ruleville scored its lone run in the third.

Deangelou Weatherall (2-4) went all five innings, allowing one run on two hits, hitting two batters and striking out eight.

Neal had an RBI triple, and Polk and Jones had a single each.

Elzy played at Yazoo City Tuesday.

Carroll Academy: The Rebels, who closed out their season Tuesday against Winona Christian, dropped a 17-7 decision to Marshall Academy Monday night in Carrollton.

Both teams scored two runs each in the first inning, but the Patriots tallied four runs in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Carroll (4-11 overall, 0-7 in District 1-AA) tacked on two runs each in the third and fourth innings, and one in the fifth frame.

Drew Thomas was hit with the loss as he went 31/3 innings, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on four hits, walking six and fanning two. Dane Greenlee worked 32/3 innings in relief, allowing seven runs (four earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out three.
