Earlier, the US leader made a decision to cancel his meeting with Putin, which had been scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Peskov said.

‘Therefore, in this case [Moscow] has nothing more to initiate here. The ball is in Washington’s court,’ he said, answering a question if Russia plans to initiate new talks between the two leaders, TASS news agency reported.

When asked if the US has suggested any contacts, Peskov said: ‘No, no meetings are being discussed now.’

The first Putin-Trump meeting was held on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Germany’s Hamburg in July 2017. The first summit between the two leaders took place in July 2018 in Helsinki.

The two heads of state planned to hold a full-fledged meeting in Buenos Aires at the G20 summit (on November 30-December 1, 2018). On the eve of the event, Trump announced its cancellation via Twitter over the Kerch Strait incident on November 25, when Russia detained Ukrainian warships, which had violated the rules of passage. However, during the summit the two presidents held a brief chat.
