North America’s 1st Indoor Ski Slope Opens In New Jersey

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WCBS 880) — Big SNOW, North America’s first indoor ski slope, has opened at the American Dream Mall In New Jersey.

After being in the works for more than a decade, the indoor ski slope officially opened on Thursday, just in time for the holidays.

WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell traveled to the Meadowlands for a firsthand look at the ski and snowboard park, which features an indoor bunny hill for beginners and black diamond trails for experts.

He reports the main trail is 1,000-feet long and 160-feet tall. The entire park is located inside a 180,000 square-foot, 16-story, climate-controlled arena.

“We can fit 500 people at one time on the snow,” said Joe Hession, CEO of Big SNOW’s parent company. “Every 15 minutes, 60 people enter.”

Steve Weaver, a skier from Wayne, tells Haskell the indoor slope is great for learning or warming up before hitting natural terrain.

“I could see myself going here before my west coast trip,” he said.

The park has one chair lift and two moving carpets as well. Tickets for the park are typically $50.
