Roanoke County Education Foundation awards nearly $80,000 in scholarships


ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR News) – Monday evening, Roanoke County students received nearly $80,000 of scholarship funds. 

The Roanoke County Public Schools Foundation awarded 91 scholarships at their annual scholarship awards ceremony. 

“These scholarships are being awarded to outstanding young men and women who are the pride of Roanoke County Public Schools,” said Foundation president Jason Sandzimier. 

“The scholarship selection committee had a very difficult time selecting the winners from many outstanding applications,” he added.

The Roanoke County Education Foundation was created in 1991. The foundation non-profit organization works to provide student scholarships for graduating seniors, classroom grants for innovative teaching ideas, assist with student travel to attend state and national competitions, provide resources for international education, and assist students in remedial education and substance abuse programs.

The Education Foundation has provided more than a million dollars worth of scholarships since it was created. 

Students will use this scholarship money for tuition, books, and more.
