SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif, – Santa Barbara County Public Health officials are asking for the public’s help to locate a woman who may have been exposed to a rabid bat.
The exposure is believed to have occurred earlier this week in Santa Barbara.
The woman is described as white, between the ages of 45 and 70 with short gray hair.
On Tuesday, the woman reportedly approached two men at the corner of Sola Street and Anacapa Street in the city of Santa Barbara and handed them a box which contained a bat. The men took the bat to animal services upon the woman’s request and the bat tested positive for the rabies virus.
This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public, but health officials say the woman and/or person who captured the bat should contact Public Health Department at 805-681-5280.
