Strong front line helps South sweep North in Sports Week volleyball


The South used a stellar front line and strong defense to sweep the South 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 in Sports Week volleyball at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex on Thursday in Montgomery.

South players combined for 41 kills, led by Avery Rogers of Spanish Fort and Haley Palmer of McGill-Toolen with nine each, to 29 kills for the North. McGill-Toolen’s Imani Nichols added six kills.

South MVP Victoria Schmer of Chelsea led the defense with a match-high 19 digs while Kayla Keshock of Spanish Fort contributed 18 assists and Ali Wiggins of Enterprise added 15 assists.

North MVP McKinley Ferguson of Jasper led the attack with 10 kills, adding 10 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Sparkman’s Jasmine Brooks added nine kills and Hazel Green’s Catherine Smith provided 13 assists.
