Syrian regime, rebels exchange prisoners – Middle East Monitor


The Syrian regime and rebels exchanged prisoners on Monday where nine people from each side were released, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported.

The exchange comes in implementation of the Astana process.

A new round of talks will take place on April, 25 with the presence of the three guarantor nations of the peace process, namely Russia, Iran, and Turkey.

According to the news agency, the simultaneous exchange took place in the northwest of Syria, near the town of Al-Bab close to Aleppo countryside.

The first prisoners’ swap between the two sides took place on November 24, 2018, while the second exchange took place on February 12, 2019.

The Syrian regime of President, Bashar al- Assad detains at least 500,000 prisoners, a majority of them were arrested after the revolutionary in March 2011
